Meet the Principals

image of Sheila Burns

Sheila M. Burns, SPHR, has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources, the last 15 focusing on international businesses. She has worked as a consultant in more than 25 countries across a broad range of industries including telecom, high tech., call center, automotive, construction, manufacturing and engineering as a consultant

Prior to the formation of GHRO, Sheila worked as a consultant to AT&T Broadband on international business wind-down activities, She spent 12 years as the head of MediaOne international assignment management programs and had lead responsibility for international HR operations for all MediaOne international joint ventures and subsidiaries. She operated the company’s international shared services subsidiary with annual transactions in excess of US$40m and services provided to more than 1000 employees around the world. She also served as the lead internal consultant to new wireless business in Europe and Asia, setting up new business organizations, counseling senior business leaders and forming local HR teams.

Sheila’s HR focus areas include organizational design, compensation and benefits, international personal taxation and equalization, HRIS, and business process design for HR operations. Sheila has earned the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation from the Society for Human Resource Management.

Dean A Hughson has been in the Human Resources field for over twenty years. He has worked in start-up environments, creating HR practices and policies to meet the needs of new organizations as they launch their business. While Dean is an HR generalist, his areas of specialization include recruitment, compensation, needs assessments and employee development. He has extensive experience as the HR team member for mergers and acquisitions.

During the mid 90’s, Dean worked with the new subsidiaries of a large Telco in the US, creating policies and processes for employee relations, staffing, compensation and benefit programs. His work supported the first joint ventures the company formed outside the US.

While living abroad, in addition to working on joint venture teams, he served as account director for expatriates in those ventures. His work included recommending leadership development programs and coaching local employees. He developed staffing, compensation and performance management plans, incorporating appropriate cultural principles and best practice concepts. He acted as an advocate for expatriate families, coordinating relocation and managing issues while the expatriate lived abroad and repatriated. He developed an EAP for international assignees to meet unique needs while on assignment.

Dean has also delivered training programs around the world. He is a certified Master Trainer for DDI’s Targeted Selection Interviewing (behavioral interviewing). Dean’s experiences in the United Kingdom, Poland, Malaysia, Indonesia and Afghanistan as an expatriate have given him a first hand insight into the challenges and delights of living overseas and working cross culturally on a day-to-day basis.
